The Skilled Lead Hand is responsible for the efficient operation of the processing lines, ensuring maximum efficiency and yields.  In addition, the Skilled Lead Hand must ensure compliance with all company and customer standards and is responsible for following established food safety and quality procedures.  Some of the general duties are as follows:

  • Ensure proper set up of equipment, availability of supplies and meet planned production schedules, yields and customer specifications. Perform required checks on equipment, ingredients, packaging, and processing procedures. 
  • Participate in training programs for relevant food safety & HACCP procedures, product quality requirements, equipment & process technology.
  • Organize, allocate and monitor available manpower, ensure fair rotation of positions and adherence to job procedures.  Provide regular feedback to employees and Supervisor regarding staff performance. 
  • Provide training for new workers in processing, product quality, procedures, safety, and hygiene.
  • Maintain accurate production records. 
  • Maximize efficiencies where possible, minimize down time by efficient change-over, repairing minor breakdowns and reporting mechanical problems promptly.
  • Always ensure acceptable housekeeping of area and work closely with Utility handler.
  • Contribute to the overall Health and Safety of yourself and your direct reports.  Ensure that all team members follow the established policies as outlined in the company policies.
  • Other duties as directed by Supervisor.


  • Able to handle heavy lifting of up to 25kg bags
  • Experience with food safety and HACCP principles
  • Must be dependable and hold an above average attendance record
  • Strong mathematical skills and mechanical aptitude
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work well under pressure and with little supervision
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Able to maintain forklift/hand truck certificate
